An epidemic of Chikungunya which prevailed into Large Comore since January 2005 now reached the Meeting. It is about a viral infection (the Chikungunya virus is a alphavirus, transmitted by the mosquitos of the Aedes kind).
See current epidemiology [ To read ]

This disease is usually translated, after an incubation from 3 to 7 days, by a high fever (> 38?5) of the severe polyathralgies (ankles, wrists, phalanges), cephalgias.
A cutaneous eruption, a hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and phenomena are also possible.

The disease generally lasts 3 to 7 days. It is benign, not involving serious forms but trailing forms are possibles.b
The symptoms are not discriminating and one can evoke in front of such a table an Acute Rheumatoid arthritis, a paludism, an influenza and especially the dengue.

The diagnosis of certainty rests on the search for alphavirus, act registered with the nomenclature of the acts of medical biology (B70 side) and refunded by the Sickness insurance.

The doctors of the Meeting must know the existence of this epidemic whose diagnosis of certainty rests only on biology.

Currently, the principal risk with the Meeting remains the renewal of activity of the dengue

I am at your disposal for any further information and thanks you for your co-operation.

Epidemic of Chikungunya holds the Meeting.
May 20, 2005

The epidemic develops rapidemement and reaches now practically all the zones of the island.

Significant points

* This disease, although tr?s feverish and painful is benign (without gravity)
* Consult your doctor. He will be able to relieve you.
In particular for the young children and the old people for whom the fever is a risk in oneself...
* The transmission is done only by the mosquitos and never directly person to person (with the difference of the influenza)
* One exists often apr?s a few days, a cutaneous eruption which will disparaitra spontaneously... as it came
* The articular pains can disappear in a few days but also - too often - persist several weeks

Lastly, and it is tr?s significant
* To stop this disease, the fight and protection against the mosquitos are the only possible parade
o On a purely individual basis, protect counters the mosquitos: mosquito nets, repulsive, twists, etc...
o On a purely general basis, do not leave stagnant water in your gardens, on your balconies: it is there that the mosquitos lay their eggs...

To conclude

This benign epidemic dismounts - if it of it were necessary - that our island is not safe from a return in strength of paludism and that you to protect by a chimioprophylaxie at the time of a voyage in impalud?e zone, it is also to protect the Meeting.
