Well the area which seems to have the greatest increase in the number of confirmed H1N1 cases this week is Winnipeg. The province will not release any new statistics until next Wednesday, July 1st, and given that that day is a national holiday, it will be interesting to see if they bother. We may have a long wait until the Manitoba government releases new statistics, **** them.

Also of note: 37 hospitalized on ventilators (although not all of these cases have been confirmed as H1N1 swine flu).

Note that the province's figure does not correspond with the federal government's own stats, which say that the total number of confirmed cases of H1N1 in Manitoba is 517.

Yes that's where I get my data from, starting from the first media bulletin on H1N1 issued on 28/04/09.

What I don't understand is why the Manitoba governement says they have 458 confirmed cases of H1N1 swine flu, but the official federal government statistics say that Manitoba has 517 cases. (Both state that they are current as of June 24, 2009.) That's a pretty glaring difference.

INFLUENZA IN MANITOBA – 2008/2009 SEASON

Report on Cases reported up to 4:00 PM, June 20th, 2009

The following report details influenza activity in Manitoba from the start of the 2008/2009 flu season, which runs from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. The public health disease surveillance system of Manitoba Health and Healthy Living received its first laboratory-confirmed positive case of influenza for the season during Week 2 of 2009, January 11 to January 17, 2009. To date this season, there have been 655 laboratory-confirmed cases of Influenza A [includs H1 + ordinary flu] and 38 lab-confirmed cases of Influenza B in the province.
