As of this week, all those who set foot inside Chapala?s Palacio Municipal are requested to swipe their hands with antibaterial gel and don protective face masks as a measure to combat the spread of the H1N1 flu bug. The local government set up the sanitary filter after state health authorities threatened to shut the doors of city hall until immediate steps were taken to check contagion. Ironically, the powers that be have not seen fit to supply the public bathrooms located in the building with toilet paper, soap or hand towels.
