A high-level team deputed by the Union Ministry of Health to study the spread of chikungunya in the State will conduct vector and serological studies in affected areas and suggest measures for preventing recurring viral-fever episodes in the State.
The five-member team, headed by B.K. Prasad, Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Health, arrived here on Monday evening.
Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy; Health Secretary Vishwas Mehta; Director of Health Services T.K. Kuttamani; and senior health officials briefed it.
The team members are D.C. Jain, Additional Director (Public Health) of National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD); Jagvir Singh, Joint Director; Sunil Gupta, microbiology expert; and R.S. Sharma, entomology expert.
Sixty-two cases of chikungunya have been confirmed through serological analysis in the State. Thiruvananthapuram joined the list of affected districts on Monday with the confirmation of three cases at Veeranakavu in Nedumangad taluk.
