Mpox support in Bangui

Opening of a second Treatment Center at the CNHUB

Recently, a case of mpox was reported and treated for the first time in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic. A mother and her child, after a stay in the Yombo village, 35 km from Bangui in Ombella-Mpoko, were affected by the virus. The child, having contracted mpox in Yombo, subsequently infected his mother. As symptoms developed in Bangui, the mother was hospitalized at the National Hospital Center of Bangui (CNHUB) and continues her treatment.

The opening of a second mpox treatment center at the CNHUB is a response to this emergence of mpox in urban areas. This new center increases treatment capacity, emphasizing that mpox is no longer just a rural disease but also a public health issue in urban areas.

Awareness of the symptoms of mpox – rash, fever, muscle pain – is crucial. In the event of symptoms, citizens should consult the Pasteur Institute in Bangui or the CNHUB.

This initiative marks significant progress in the availability of care adapted to mpox, both in rural and urban areas, strengthening the response capacity of the Central African Republic to this disease.
