Measles epidemic in Gamboula: children particularly affected

A measles epidemic has been raging since January 2025 in Gamboula, a town located nearly 700 kilometers from Bangui, in the Mambéré-Kadéï prefecture. Several neighborhoods are affected, including Ndongo, Bori, Damsa 1 and Damsa 2.
“Measles has become the main disease in our area since the beginning of the year. Many children are affected but some families are still hesitant to take them to the hospital,” says Fabien Ndjongbé, medical assistant at the Ditsik hospital in Gamboula.
The medical team is trying to alert the population about the seriousness of this highly contagious disease. “We urge all mothers to have their children vaccinated at health centers. Measles can have serious complications if not treated in time,” Mr. Ndjongbé emphasizes.
A vaccination campaign is being organized in the Gamboula sub-prefecture to stop the epidemic. Local health authorities are calling on parents to participate massively to protect their children.
