CDC Wastewater Scan Shows H5 Detections In 11 States

#18,484

While the source of these H5 readings in wastewater remains undetermined, this week we are seeing the widest geographic range of positives - literally from California to Maine - since testing began last summer.

During the first week of December - 60 sites - roughly 19% of those sampled - were positive.

As the chart below illustrates - over the past 6 reporting weeks - the number of positives has steadily climbed, with just 14 reported in late October, and 45 reported last week.

It is notable that several of the states with positive detections - including Florida, Delaware, Maine, and New Jersey - have yet to report outbreaks in poultry or cattle this fall.
