Re: CDC surveillance week 34

it has been suggested, that the rise in cases is due to
schools reopening.
I can't find a list of the USA-school holidays.

Do the locations of increased ILI coincide with previous
school-openings ? This is from last week, so the schools
should have opened 15.-20. Sept. ?

Re: CDC surveillance week 34

I'm not sure about the whole state, but schools in Elkhart County started the fall semester beginning the week of Aug 17.

Indiana University Fall semester classes began Monday, Aug. 31

Monday is a holiday: Labor Day and I *think* just about all kids will have gone back by Tuesday or Wed.

Re: CDC surveillance week 34

Students in NJ go back this week and next week, but football and band camps etc did run in August.

Yes, they do!

Re: CDC surveillance week 34

so, when are US school holidays ?
Is it individual or by school, county, state ?
There should be a list somewhere with all schools
(counties,states) and their holidays -
I couldn't find it.
~1200 schools in New York --> ~50000 schools in USA
--> file with ~10MB

or a chart for each state showing how many pupils return to
school by day or the average re-opening day for each state, county,

Re: CDC surveillance week 34

It used to be traditional to start after Labor Day weekend (Labor Day - 1st Monday in September). Now, school breaks vary greatly. Our district started Aug 17th. The adjacent county started a week earlier.

Groups of school are part of a school districts. Each district has a board which has local control of policy. Of course, the policies have to meet state and federal guidelines. One constant is the observance of federal holidays. Good luck finding one source for all school opening dates. ;)

Re: CDC surveillance week 34

this is strange that in a country like USA there is no such list.
Here you find it on small calenders,in newspapers, internet,
magazines,... millions of sources.
It is commonly used for planning traffic, holidays of employees
in companies, tourism events, sport events, gas prices, etc.

Re: CDC surveillance week 34

There are probably lists locally but not one nationally.

Then we have spring break and teachers' conferences (no school). Aren't kids off for a week or 2 over the Christmas holidays?

Colleges and universities can have different schedules than the lower grades.

Re: CDC surveillance week 34

merge the local holiday lists and put them on the webpage
of the education department
also holidays of big companies, organisations
