OMAHA, Neb. Nebraskans can have a say in how national plans for a possible bird flu pandemic are created.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is looking for one-hundred Nebraskans who would like to offer feedback on the extreme measures under consideration. Those measures include closing schools, canceling public events and asking people to stay in their homes.A forum on the proposed public policy will be held tomorrow in Lincoln. Interested people may sign up by contacting the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials at 1-800-219-6670.Nebraska is one of just four states that has been asked to hold a community forum.
Health officials worldwide are concerned that avian flu could set off a deadly pandemic.

Re: CDC seeks community input about pandemic plans

I went to the same thing the CDC put on in Seattle 2 weeks ago. It was quite good as far as their methodology of getting a feel for what the public will accept (for sheltering in place.)

They freely asked for vocal feedback from the audience / participants by passing around open microphones on many occasions.

It was very deficient, however, in 2 regards: They did not advise--at all--how LONG one should expect to SIP; the worst ommission, hoever, was that their presupposition was that the CFR would be 2%. (That was evident in the handouts they provided.)

Whoever goes to this, please make this a matter to bring to their attention:

How would a 60+% CFR, multi wave pandemic affect their sheltering in place advice they are giving the public NOW?
