By their own totals, 10K with 936 deaths they are approaching a 1% death rate of hospitalized patients? I wonder what the total number hospitalized in the 1,529 is?

Also, 114 confirmed from 936 is 1 in 8.2 fatalities.
Applying that same ratio to the pre Aug 30 confirmed deaths;

593 : 4863

Does anyone know if CDC plans to go and make estimates of fatalities from April to August?

So, the numbers more than doubled in one week? They've been doubling every week. More than that from 9/5 - 9/12.....and that's just the hospitalizations. Is my info below right? I guess. :eek:

The CDC numbers for hospitalizations add up to 9082 (not 10082) - or am I not reading the layout correctly?:magnify:

With 572 this past week through the 19th of September, my math gives us a total of 1529 deaths since April. Is that right? That would mean a doubling of deaths every week since Aug. 30. in the US. And I might add, that means IMO that other countries are simply fudging their figures, and not counting cases of deaths in anyone they can dismiss with prior conditions. The US has the best science on Earth, but even these numbers are LOW in my opinion because my own brother dropped dead 3 weeks ago in Austin, after complaining of burning in his lungs to his partner for 2 days, and then was found dead at home. I KNOW they did NOT even test his body for the H1N1. Sad enough, but I also see cases of 'pneumonia' being claimed to be NOT H1N1 there simply because......

W/ grateful thanks to you all for your sympathies and condolences. My brother loved life and would want you all to remember him by being as happy as you can be while still caring for others. You do the latter obviously well. Thank you again Florida1, RoRo and morningperson.;)

It is going to become much more complicated to follow novel H1N1. We are reviewing our format options here. What we want to follow is any disease that is causing morbidity and mortality in numbers that are out of the norm for this time of year and particularly in reference to age groups.

Welcome Vermonter! There is certainly an error here on the part of the CDC. The more I look at it, the more I feel that the number of influenza lab tests reported this week should be 1,690 rather than 690 and that the total 10,082 is probably correct.

Rationale:
Sep 11: 263 tested from a total of 1,380 (19%)
Sep 18: 1035 tested from a total of 4,569 (23%)
Sep 25: 690 tested from a total of 9,082 (7.6%)

The last sticks out - less testing with more hospitalizations- well maybe,
but I think it more likely that the number should be 1,690 from 10,082 (16.8%)
