06 October 2013 - From 1 January to 29 September 2013, a total of 77 Suspected cases of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Including 15 deaths (case-fatality rate 19.4%) Were reported about from Pakistan. So far, 48 cases of These Have Been reported about laboratory-confirmed. The laboratory tests Have Been Performed at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad.

Editorial note
Since it was recognized for the first time in Pakistan in 1976, there have been a biannual surge of CCHF cases in the country. Cases usually appear between March and May and again between August and October. Furthermore, it has been shown that the disease is more prevalent in specific areas of Balochistan.

Update on outbreaks in the Eastern Mediterranean Region Volume 6 Issue 40 Sunday 06 October 2013
The current outbreak of CCHF in Pakistan could well be the worst in its history given the size and scale of the outbreak as well as the geographic distribution of cases.
