Case of measles detected on Oslo-Luxembourg flight

The Ministry of Health confirms that a passenger recently travelled between Oslo and Luxembourg whilst suffering from measles. Authorities engaged in contact-tracing for fellow passengers on the flight across all of Friday.
The concerned passenger travelled on a flight from Luxembourg to Oslo (LG5553) on 12 July and on a return flight from Oslo to Luxembourg on 15 July, confirm the authorities.
As the virus that causes measles is airborne, all passengers and cabin crew on the two concerned flights will be contacted as of Friday evening to confirm whether they have had their two doses of the measles vaccine...
The Department of Health and Social Security has been informed that a passenger on board a flight from Luxembourg to Oslo (LG5553) on 12 July 2024 and a flight from Oslo to Luxembourg (LG5554) on 15 July 2024 has been diagnosed with measles.
Measles is caused by a virus that is transmitted through the air. Unvaccinated children or children under 1 year of age are most likely to develop complications, as are pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems. Most people are vaccinated against measles. However, people born between 1970 and 1990 may not have received both doses. People born before 1970 have usually had measles and are therefore protected.
All passengers and cabin crew on both affected flights will be contacted this evening (from 18:00) to check that they have received both doses of the measles vaccine. If necessary, they will be offered vaccination tomorrow morning, 20 July 2024, to limit the risk of developing measles following contact on the plane. Alternatively, people still have the option of getting vaccinated at their GP.
The Health Directorate conducted the investigation in collaboration with lux-Airport and Luxair to gather the necessary data to contact the passengers concerned and inform them as quickly as possible. The investigation also made it possible to inform the person's contacts at their workplace. People working at Luxembourg Airport were informed via their employers, including police and customs officers. Finally, the case was reported to Norway so that Contact Tracing could be carried out by the health authorities in Norway in places frequented on site.

Four people have been vaccinated against measles after a case of the disease was detected on flights between Luxembourg City and the Norwegian capital Oslo on July 12 and 15, the health ministry told Radio Latina . So far, no other cases have been discovered, but the ministry points out that the incubation period can be up to three weeks after contact with the virus.
As a precaution, health authorities offered passengers on the affected flights the chance to get vaccinated on Saturday morning. According to the authorities, among those who may have been in contact with the infected passenger, and who have since been vaccinated, are a nine-month-old baby and a man whose wife is pregnant.
This is the first time since the 2019 epidemic that Luxembourg has been confronted with a case of measles.
Symptoms of the disease usually appear 10 to 12 days after infection and begin with fever, rash (progressing from the head to the trunk and lower extremities), cough, conjunctivitis, and runny nose.
