Case Descriptions from India

Ronan Kelly

Retired 2020
I have attempted to bring the various reports of Indian cases together. The attached document contains any information on names, dates, locations, ages, treatments, and presentation of 58 fatal cases. The reporting from India is often contradictory with regard to age and name spellings.
Please note that this is a document in progress and may contain errors.

The latest update is at the bottom of this thread

Re: Case Descriptions from India

RoRo - That's outstanding! Thank you so much. I can't seem to keep track of what is happening in India. I saw a report this morning that claims the deaths total 150, but I couldn't verify it anywhere else and it didn't provide any backup data, so I didn't post it. It seems that there are a lot of duplicate media reports, so it does seem like there are more deaths than the totals posted. Whew!

You will have your hands full with India. Let us know what would help you (regarding posting articles or sharing information on case details). We don't want to duplicate efforts and it will be a great contribution to have someone taking the lead on the India data.

Re: Case Descriptions from India

The info came mostly from articles posted by members of flutrackers, I just collated it. I will update and post as often as possible.
Keep up the good work!

Re: Case Descriptions from India

Thanks RoRo. Your numbers are different than what some of the news articles are saying, so it's hard to figure it out. It is very difficult to track these cases, and it can get very confusing. I jotted down cases from #62-#72, and you have them all. Your #61,62 I did not have. (38 yo).

Re: Case Descriptions from India

It is confusing. My case #14 for example was reported variously as "41-year-old Balu Kulund", "Balu Kuland,33," and "Babu Genu Kuland, a school student".

Similarities between the three led me to report it as one case.

Also with case #16, the national update include a fatality 40/M, but newspaper reports spoke about 48yo Gautam Shelar, so I counted them as one.

The different newspapers report different, though often overlapping fatalities, and have a variety of totals. As of 8/24, the Times of India is saying 58, but Indian Express is saying 71, so I abandoned any attempt to correlate the numbers, and just list them by report date.

I think I may have missed a couple in the middle. I'll have to trawl more reports. Do you have a list I could peruse?

Re: Case Descriptions from India

no, but I thought I would continue on with ...what some of the newspapers are reporting. This was just a crude list developed this morning.

Re: Case Descriptions from India

The Health Ministry has a total of 63. For the purposes of finding new cases, I will continue on with my numbers, only because it is easier for me to find new cases that way. When I do a search, the numbers are all over the place.

RoRo, I think you should continue on as you have been. You are comfortable with the way you have been doing it.
Just disregard my Case #'s and keep up the excellent work.

Of the 67 I have investigated, the BMC is not recording Otto Jain, and Sayeda Dorjiwala (#61,62), even though they were positive for H1N1. Also, I presume #57 the 48y.o. from Delhi who tested negative is not being counted, and Sheela's swab #58 is out for testing and has not been confirmed.
So that at least is consistant with the official number.

Re: Case Descriptions from India

Sadly, I have found several more fatalities #69-75 that I had missed from the 3rd week of August. One of my aims in compiling this list is to put names with the statistics. Each life is unique. Sure, people die every day, but there is something about this that galls me. That in this day and age, with all of our technology, we can do so little to save these people. I hope that someone somewhere can use this list of symptoms or failed treatments to make a difference. One thing I see again and again - they came to hospital too late for treatment.
The death toll currently stands at 76.

Re: Case Descriptions from India

RoRo, Can you please start a new thread with your list. I will sticky it for you. This thread has turned into a hashing out of data, and I'm afraid your post has been ruined. Here is an article, with another 2 1/2 yo...or the same 2 1/2 yo. She has a different name, a different DOD.

Swine flu death toll rises to three in Marathwada

Beed (Maha), Aug 25 (PTI) The swab tests of a two-and-half years old girl, who died at the district civil hospital last week here, were found positive for swine flu, taking the death toll due to H1N1 virus to three in Marathwada region, an official said today.

The swab samples of Jyoti Kalyan Thokal were tested positive for swine flu by National Institute of Virology, Pune, Resident Medical Officer Dr R H Giri told PTI.

Jyoti died half-an-hour after she was admitted to the civil hospital here as suspected H1N1 case on August 21, he said.

Thokal family, who had shifted to Pune a year ago, had brought Jyoti here following the spread of deadly virus in Pune.

Presently, Beed has five swine flu cases out of which three have been cured and one patient is undergoing treatment, he said.

It certainly looks like a different child.

I'll start a new thread as soon as I've updated.
