Dear Parents/Guardians of Students of the North Allegheny School District:
As we promised, we are continuing to monitor the situation we reported to you last week of a single probable case of the Novel H1N1 virus. In conjunction with the Allegheny County Health Department, we feel it is important to provide you with the following update.
Status at Carson Middle School
On Friday, we let you know about a probable case of Novel H1N1 flu in a Carson Middle School student. Later that day, the student was confirmed to have Novel H1N1 flu. The student has recovered after a mild illness and treatment with Tamiflu. Over the weekend, an additional two students from Carson Middle School were found to probably be infected with H1N1 influenza. They also had mild illness and are recovering on Tamiflu. A third student has flu symptoms and possibly has infection with H1N1 illness. One teacher reported having flu symptoms this morning. Two of the three students with probable cases have siblings who are not displaying any symptoms at this time.
These students and this teacher who are ill -- and all students and faculty who have Fever >100 and symptoms such as sore throat, cough, congestion, runny nose, headache or malaise -- are being asked to remain out of school for at least 7 days or until free of symptoms for at least 24 hours, whichever is longer.
