Covid-19 cases in Cape Verde increase to 267

Cape Verde's health authorities announced this Tuesday another seven people infected with covid-19, all in the city of Praia, bringing to 267 the cumulative total of cases of the disease in the country.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health states that 25 samples were analyzed in the last 24 hours, seven of which tested positive for covid-19, all in the municipality of Praia.

The number of recovered patients across the country remains at 58.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Cape Verde, two people have died. Two other foreign tourists also infected returned to their countries of origin in March, so 205 cases of covid-19 remain in Cape Verde, hospitalized and in isolation.

“All active cases have a favorable clinical evolution”, reads the statement from the Ministry of Health.

In total, Cape Verde has recorded 267 cases of covid-19 since the first patient was diagnosed on March 19, spread over the islands of Santiago (208), Boa Vista (56) and S?o Vicente (03, all recovered).

Praia (Santiago Island), with daily cases of the disease, totaling 204 diagnosed in at least 25 neighborhoods in the city, is the main focus of concern of the authorities, as it is in a situation of community transmission of covid-19.

The islands of Santiago and Boa Vista, for concentrating the cases of covid-19 in Cape Verde, are the only ones that remain in a state of emergency, until 24:00 on 14 May.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already killed more than 283,000 people and infected more than 4.1 million people in 195 countries and territories.

Nearly 1.4 million patients were considered cured.

Cape Verde registers 19 new cases and 61 recovered

Cape Verde today registered 19 new infections, bringing the number of accumulated positive cases to 289, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Security.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Social Security reports that 19 new cases of COVID-19 have emerged, all from the municipality of Praia.

According to the same source, of the samples analyzed yesterday, 12, in the virology laboratory, 19 tested positive for coronavirus infection, and 45 negative. To these, all from the municipality of Praia, there is one, from the municipality of S?o Louren?o dos ?rg?os, which was negative.

The same source informs that 23 samples were analyzed to monitor patients in follow-up, from the municipality of Praia, of which nine were negative.

According to the same source, all active cases have a favorable clinical evolution.

Cape Verde has recorded 289 confirmed cases so far, 230 on the island of Santiago (226 in Praia, two in Tarrafal and two in S?o Domingos), 56 in Boa Vista and three in S?o Vicente. Of the 289, there are, to date, 61 recovered and two deaths.

It should be noted that yesterday, the authorities reported the appearance of seven new cases, bringing the cumulative total to 267. At the beginning of the night, the website covid19.cv already registered 270 cases, to which these new ones are added 19.

The Ministry of Health and Social Security also reinforces the call for people to stay at home and take appropriate care to prevent the spread of COVID -19.

The President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca extended the state of health emergency on the island of Santiago until May 29, with more flexible restrictive measures, to allow the gradual resumption of some economic activity.

With 256 cases of Covid-19 Santiago is the island that registers almost 82% of the 315 cases of infection with the new coronavirus in Cape Verde and is the only one that remains in a state of health emergency.

The city of Praia registered 26 more positive cases in the last 24 hours, thus totaling 252 cases in the capital this Thursday, to which are added on the island of Santiago, 2 others in Tarrafal and 1 in S?o Domingos.

The President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca extended this Wednesday (05/13) the state of emergency on the island of Santiago from 00:00 on 15 May to 24 on 29 May, but this time the restrictive measures are more flexible , in order to allow the gradual resumption of economic activity.

"... the state of emergency now extended, presents more flexible limits allowing, in some way and to some extent, the government, the preparation for the resumption of some activities, such as civil construction, public services, public administration, agricultural and similar activities ".

Political parties with a parliamentary seat agree with the President of the Republic's decision to extend the state of health emergency on Santiago Island, the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cape Verde.

On the island of Boa Vista, which reached 56 cases, but has not registered positive cases for two weeks and has only 6 active patients, the state of emergency will be lifted as of midnight this Thursday (14/05).

The island of S?o Vicente recorded 3 positive cases for the new coronavirus SarsCoV2 and the state of emergency was lifted on 2 May.

The state of health emergency has been in force in Cape Verde since 29 March and on 27 April it was lifted on the six islands with no record of cases in Covid-19: Santo Ant?o, S?o Nicolau, Sal, Maio, Fogo and Brava.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 297,000 deaths and infected more than 4.3 million people in 195 countries and territories.

Cape Verde registers third death by covid-19

The patient who was in intensive care at Hospital Agostinho Neto, infected with covid-19, died. With the death recorded today, the number of deaths caused by the coronavirus in Cape Verde rises to three.

Cape Verde accounts for 328 cumulative cases of covid-19 (2 today) and three deaths. The number of recovered people was updated today to 85.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, Praia represents about 80% of the reported cases. There are six counties with positive cases of the new coronavirus.

The overall lethality rate, with the death recorded today, rose from 0.6 to 0.9%. Asymptomatic patients represent about 77% of cases.

In isolation are 238 people, at Praia (233), Boa Vista (2) Tarrafal de Santiago (2) and Santa Cruz (1).

In a statement, the ministry said that a total of 184 samples were analyzed by the Virology Laboratory of the National Institute of Public Health, from municipalities on the islands of Santiago, S?o Nicolau and S?o Vicente.

In the municipality of Praia, of the 131 samples analyzed, 14 gave a positive result for covid-19, bringing the total of the Cape Verdean capital to an accumulated of 282 cases.

Still on the island of Santiago (again the only one with positive cases), that laboratory analyzed 26 samples from the Health Center in the municipality of Santa Cruz, one of which tested positive for covid-19.

According to the same communiqu?, these data are for samples from 16 to 18 May, given that on Sunday and Monday, due to maintenance work on the test equipment, no analyzes were carried out in that laboratory.

Praia, May 22, 2020 (Lusa) - Cape Verde today registered six more cases of infection with the new coronavirus, all in the city of Praia, which accounted for an additional 35 recovered patients, higher than new cases for the second consecutive day, totaling 362, according to official information.

A government source told Expresso das Ilhas this morning that the patient, a 55-year-old woman who was in serious condition, died at the Agostinho Neto Hospital.

It is thus the fourth deadliest victim recorded in Cape Verde since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the various epidemiological bulletins, which had been released by the Ministry of Health, the patient had been in a critical situation for several days.

With this death, of which more details are not known for now, Cape Verde now has a total of four fatal cases caused by the disease. One on the island of Boa Vista, a 62-year-old English tourist, and three on Praia, a 92-year-old woman, a 65-year-old man, all of them with other associated health problems, and now this death.

Speaking to the press today, the Minister of Health, Arlindo do Ros?rio, explained that the patient had other health complications.

In a message to the country from the city of Praia, the head of Government, Ulisses Correia e Silva, highlighted the fact that the last island in the country, Santiago, ended the state of emergency at the end of today, two months later, and could the country proceeds to the next phase in the fight against the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus.

Praia registers 21 more new cases of COVID -19

Today, Cape Verde registers 22 new cases of COVID -19, 21 of which in Praia and one in Sal. The data were released today, by the Ministry of Health and Social Security, through a statement.

According to the Ministry of Health and Social Security, 124 samples were examined this Sunday, May 31, in the virology laboratory. The negative results are 74 from the city of Praia, 20 of which are for follow-up patients, three from Cidade Velha, three from Tarrafal de Santiago and one from Sal island.

Cape Verde has 536 positive cases of COVID-19. Today, the city of Praia registers 29 new cases, Santa Cruz one, and four on the island of Sal.
