TORONTO -- Ontario is reporting a combined 1,553 new COVID-19 cases over the last two days.

The number of cases includes 807 infections logged, but not released, on the Thanksgiving holiday Monday and 746 recorded on Tuesday.

The province also confirmed another 12 deaths related to the disease, with at least seven of them categorized as long-term care residents. Three of those deaths were recorded on Monday and nine were logged on Tuesday.

The last time the province recorded nine COVID-19 deaths in a single day was in mid-July.

The majority of those who have died after contracting the novel coronavirus are people over the age of 80, with 2,077 deaths recorded in total since the beginning March. Eleven others were between the ages of 20 and 39 while 125 were between the ages of 40 and 59 and 803 were between the ages of 60 and 79.

According to the province’s epidemiology report, most of the cases reported in the last two days were found in people between the ages of 20 and 59.

Of the 1,553 infections logged on Monday and Tuesday, 1,079 fall within that age group. Two hundred and forty-four were under the age of 20 while 233 were over the age of 60.

There are currently 230 people being treated for COVID-19 in Ontario hospitals. Of those patients, 60 are in the intensive care unit and 34 are breathing with the assistance of a ventilator.

The new cases bring the total number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 infections in Ontario to 60,692, including 3,017 deaths and 51,729 recoveries.

TORONTO -- Ontario has recorded more than 700 new COVID-19 cases for the fifth straight day.

On Friday, provincial health officials logged 712 new infections of the novel coronavirus.

There were 783 cases logged on Thursday, 721 on Wednesday, 746 on Tuesday, and 807 cases on Monday. Ontario saw 649 cases on Sunday, 809 on Saturday and hit a record-high when 939 infections were logged last Friday.

The total number of lab-confirmed infections in the province is now 62,908, including deaths and recoveries.

Ontario confirmed nine new deaths linked to the disease on Friday, including five residents of long-term care homes. The province’s death toll is now 3,031. There were also nine deaths reported on Tuesday but prior to that it had been months since the fatality number had been that high.

There were 713 more cases deemed to be resolved by officials on Wednesday. The province now has a total of 54,004 recovered patients...

Ontario government reports 805 new coronavirus cases, 10 new deaths; 63,713 total cases

The Ontario government is reporting in its daily update that more than 800 new people have tested positive for coronavirus.

As of Saturday morning, the government said 63,713 have contracted COVID-19 to date. It was also reported that 10 people died since Friday morning, bringing the total number of people dead to 3,041.

In total, 54,686 people have recovered from the virus — an increase of 682 people since Friday.

Of the 278 people in Ontario hospitals Saturday morning, 72 were listed as being in intensive care units and 42 people were reported to be on ventilators.

The government reported 44,722 coronavirus tests were completed on Friday and 4,617,563 tests have been completed to date.

According to a summary of data published by Public Health Ontario, a large number of new cases were in people between the ages of 20 and 39...

TORONTO -- Ontario has recorded a single-day increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases.

Health officials confirmed 704 new infections on Monday. Ontario logged 658 new infections of the novel coronavirus on Sunday.

Ontario also reported four new COVID-19-related deaths in the province, bringing the total number of fatalities to 3,050.

The total number of lab-confirmed infections in the province is now 65,075, including deaths and recoveries.

There were 607 more cases considered to be resolved by officials on Monday. The province now has a total of 55,978 recovered patients. Monday's test positivity rate was 2.2 per cent.

Ontario reported 821 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday and three new deaths, on a drastically lower amount of processed tests, sending the provincewide positivity rate well above three per cent.

The new cases were detected on 24,000 tests, less than half of the province’s target for testing announced last month and below one third of what the province agreed to eventually reach under the federal Safe Restart Agreement.

As a result, the positivity rate was 3.42 per cent. Provincial labs processed 31,864 specimens on Monday.

In moving four regions of the province back into a modified Stage 2 of reopening this month, Premier Doug Ford and other officials have cited a marker where they move to enact measures whenever a region of the province reaches a test positivity rate of 2.5 per cent or greater...

TORONTO -- Ontario reported nearly 800 new COVID-19 cases and a spike in the number of deaths on Wednesday.

Health officials confirmed 790 new infections on Wednesday, which is a slight decrease from the the 821 cases reported on Tuesday.

The majority of cases were found in Ontario's four COVID-19 hotspots, which are currently in a modified Stage 2. There are 321 new cases in Toronto, 127 in Peel Region, 76 in York Region and 57 in Ottawa.

Ontario also reported a spike in the number of deaths on Wednesday, logging nine new COVID-19-related fatalities. On Tuesday, the province added three deaths.

The nine deaths bring Ontario's total number of fatalities to 3,062. The total number of lab-confirmed infections in the province is now 66,686, including deaths and recoveries...

Ontario hit its highest number of COVID-19 cases since setting a record two weeks ago despite new measures banning indoor dining and closing indoor dining and drinking in hot zones on the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Ministry of Health reported 841 new infections Thursday, up from 719 the previous day and the most since 939 on Oct. 9 with a 20 per cent increase in testing over the previous day. There were nine deaths for the second day in a row.

“If we hadn’t taken any measures our numbers would be even higher than they are now,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott, referring to the modified Stage 2 restrictions in Toronto, Peel, York, and Ottawa...

Two weeks after several key areas of the province entered a modified Stage 2, Ontario reported an all-time single day high of 978 new cases of COVID-19.

The previous high was 939 back on October 9 – the day before restrictions on indoor dining, gyms and cinemas were ordered in Toronto, Peel and Ottawa to try and curb the spread of the virus.

Among those provincial hotspots, Toronto has 348 new cases, Peel Region is next with 170, and Ottawa with 89. York Region reported 141 new cases.

Durham region, which the province is considering adding to the modified Stage 2 list, saw a sharp increase in new cases to 51 from 38 the previous day.

Provincial officials say they processed 44,151 tests in the last 24 hour period, marking the highest total in a week. The backlog of cases sits at almost 31,000.

The positivity rate climbed to 2.2 per cent, up from 2.1 per cent from the previous day.

Premier Doug Ford said a "positive" projection report on COVID-19 numbers in Ontario is coming from the government Thursday, even as Ontario's seven-day average of new cases hit a record high today.

Ontario reported another 834 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, driving the seven-day average up while the number of tests being processed stayed well below capacity for a third day.

Ford said Dr. Adalsteinn Brown will present a report showing the spread of the virus is going "downwards."

"That's really positive," Ford said. The premier also said he understands people are feeling fatigued as the pandemic has stretched on for several months.

"You see the fatigue out there, you see people frustrated … I'm here to give them hope," Ford said.

Consistent with recent months, most of the newly confirmed cases in today's report were found in four public health units:

Toronto: 299
Peel Region: 186
York Region: 121
Ottawa: 76

Ford asking for reopenings in Stage 2 areas as Ontario confirms 896 new COVID-19 cases

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he'll ask the province's health experts to come up with a plan to allow more businesses to reopen in the areas hardest hit by COVID-19 after a 28-day period of tighter public health restrictions expires next month.

Ford made the announcement as the province reported another 896 cases of COVID-19, and saw the seven-day average of daily cases climb above 900 for the first time in the pandemic. New modelling — which you can read for yourself at the bottom of this story — shows Ontario can expect to see between 800-1,200 cases per day in the coming weeks. Those case numbers are much higher than when Ontario initially instigated widespread lockdowns back in the spring, though hospitalizations are currently at a lower number than that period.

At the province's daily press conference Friday, Ford said he has asked Ontario's health team to look at lifting modified Stage 2 restrictions "in a safe manner."

"Obviously we are having significant community spread of COVID-19 in certain parts of the province," Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe said.

"The numbers are still going up, but they're going up slower. So what it's saying to us is we can perhaps look at modifying the conditions."...

Ontario reported 1,015 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, the second-highest number recorded since the outbreak began in late January.

The new numbers also mark the second time the daily case count has topped 1,000 in less than a week.

The Ontario health ministry said the majority of new cases were found in the province's four hot spots:

Toronto: 325.
Peel Region: 282.
Ottawa: 94.
York Region: 88.

TORONTO -- Ontario's seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases has hit another record high, despite new infections being down slightly on Monday.

The 948 new infections are down from the 977 cases reported on Sunday and the 1,015 cases reported on Saturday. The seven-day average number of cases now sits at an all-time high of 919.

At the same time, with a little over 27,900 tests processed in the last 24 hours, the positivity rate for the province of Ontario is currently 3.4 per cent, up significantly from the 2.6 per cent recorded a day earlier.

Monday's report brings the total number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario to 77,655, including 66,407 resolved cases and 3,152 deaths, seven of which occured since the previous day.

Of the new infections reported, nearly 400 were found in people between the ages of 20 and 39. Another 284 cases were logged in people between the ages of 40 and 59. There were 137 new cases recorded in people 19 years of age and younger.

Ontario is reporting an additional 1,050 cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, which marks a new single-day high for the province.

The seven-day average of new cases, which helps smooth out noise in the data, is now up to 950. The province is also reporting 14 more deaths, with its official death toll standing at 3,166. Just under 64 per cent of those deaths were residents of long-term care homes.

Just 25,279 tests were completed yesterday. Public health officials said in September that they hoped to be processing upward of 68,000 tests per day by mid-November, with Monday's testing number far below current daily capacity of about 45,000.

There were 408 new cases found in Toronto, 212 in Peel, 86 in Halton, 76 in York Region and 57 in Durham. There were also 837 resolved cases.

Other regions seeing double digit increases include Ottawa at 34 (a number far lower than daily case count that city was seeing weeks ago), Simcoe Muskoka at 21, Hamilton at 34, Niagara at 31 and Waterloo at 20...

Ontario is reporting another 998 new cases of COVID-19, pushing its rolling seven-day average closer to the 1,000 threshold.

The total is up from the 936 cases reported last Wednesday.

Ontario’s seven-day rolling average of new cases now stands at 981.5. That represents a nine per cent increase from this point last week when the seven-day average stood at 899.

The Ministry of Health is also reporting an additional 13 deaths in COVID-19 patients over the last 24 hours, including seven long-term care residents. That number is down from the recent high of 16 deaths reported on Wednesday but still pushes Ontario’s seven-day average up to eleven.

As recently as Aug. 17, Ontario’ seven-day average of new deaths was under one (0.42) but the indicator has slowly but steadily risen since then.

The latest cases come as the province’s labs turned around 35,754 tests on Wednesday. That is far off Ontario’s capacity of 50,000 tests a day but nonetheless represents the highest that number has been this week.

It also points to the points to the lowest positivity rate seen so far this week at 3.3 per cent.

Of the new cases reported on Thursday more than three-quarters are located in the Greater Toronto Area, including 350 in Toronto, 269 in Peel, 71 in York Region, 47 in Halton Region and 33 in Durham Region...

Ontario reported 1,328 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, marking a new single-day peak for a second day in a row.

The Ontario health ministry reported 1,132 new cases on Saturday, for a total of 2,460 cases over the weekend. Both totals surpassed the previous high of 1,050, which was reported on Tuesday.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said the province processed under 37,600 tests since its last daily report.

Ontario says it wants to build capacity for up to 100,000 tests for the novel coronavirus each day by mid-December. The province, however, has never surpassed its current capacity of about 50,000, let alone approached its mid-November target of 68,000.
