Inaction, infighting have stalled TB effort on reserves: Health officials

WINNIPEG ? There's no national plan to fight tuberculosis among First Nations, data are kept secret and government turf wars stall real progress on a disease one expert called "a blot on the conscience of Canadians."
Public health officials painted such a bleak picture of the situation on reserves Tuesday that one federal NDP MP suggested Canada's auditor general ought to investigate.
"This is clearly a national emergency, and I am not sure we're hearing from the government of Canada a response that's commensurate with the situation," said Winnipeg North MP Judy Wasylycia-Leis. "I don't hear much except the strategy is under review."
