Flout flu at your peril, warns new poll

The flu is "nothing to sneeze at," warns the Ontario Lung Association after releasing results of a poll Tuesday that suggest an alarming number of at-risk Canadians take a potentially dangerous "laissez-faire" approach to the illness.

The survey found nearly two-thirds of Canadians considered "at-risk" ? because they are either over 65, are pregnant, are long-term smokers or have a chronic medical condition, such as asthma or heart disease ? don't realize seasonal influenza can cause severe and life-threatening complications which send 20,000 people to hospital every year and cause up to 8,000 deaths...
