Seventy-two people have fallen ill after eating salami recalled due to possible salmonella contamination.

The Public Health Agency of Canada released an updated notice on an outbreak of salmonella infections linked to Rea brand Genoa Salami Sweet, Rea brand Genoa Salami Hot and Bona brand Mild Genova Salami.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled the products in Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba on June 10.

At that time, 57 illnesses had been reported, with 44 in Alberta, 13 in Ontario and none in Manitoba.

On Tuesday, the public health agency reported additional cases, bringing Alberta's infections to 57, Ontario to 14 and Manitoba to one.

Seven people have been hospitalized since the recall was issued.​..

While most of the illnesses reported are in Alberta with 67 people sickened, the outbreak also affects Ontario, where 15 people have been ill, as well as Manitoba with one person sick. One illness reported in B.C. is related to travel to Alberta.

​Health officials say a salmonella outbreak linked to deli meats sold at grocery stores and in prepared sandwiches has expanded.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says 84 people have gotten sick since April, and there have now been nine hospitalizations.

That's about a dozen more illnesses and two more hospitalizations since the agency's last report in late June.

PHAC says the infections are linked to Rea brand Genoa Salami Sweet, Rea brand Genoa Salami Hot and Bona brand Mild Genova Salami.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled the products in Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba on June 10.​..

Several brands of salami contaminated with salmonella​

Health officials are adding Saskatchewan and British Columbia to the list of provinces where salami and cacciatore products connected to a salmonella outbreak were distributed.
The Public Health Agency of Canada says 87 people have now gotten sick after eating contaminated lunch meat, with nine of those people landing in the hospital.​

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) previously reported the contaminated products were sold in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec...

...The CFIA has recalled over 65 products linked to the outbreak, including Rea brand salamis, Bona brand salamis, Cosmo's Smoked Meats, Imperial Meats and other brands sold in grocery stores, specialty markets, restaurants, cafes, delis and butcher shops.
