Cameroon: Food poisoning leaves 5 dead and 13 hospitalized in the East

French.news.cn | 2025-12-09 at 00:59

YAOUNDE, December 8 (Xinhua) -- Five people died and thirteen others were hospitalized following food poisoning on Sunday in Mbeth II, a locality in the East region of Cameroon, announced CRTV, the public broadcaster.

The tragedy occurred around 11:00 AM (local time) after the consumption of a traditional dish suspected of being contaminated. The victims were five children: two aged 6, one aged 5, one aged 2, and one aged 13 months. The person who prepared the meal was among the hospitalized patients.

Health services were immediately mobilized. Ten patients are being treated at the CMCI Bonis, while three others have been transferred to a regional hospital. An investigation has been launched to determine the source of the contamination.

This incident comes less than a year after a similar case recorded in January 2025 in the village of Paki, also in the Eastern region, where 18 people were poisoned, resulting in the deaths of four of them.
