The Ministry of Health yesterday issued a warning for citizens not to eat raw or undercooked meat after tests confirmed that eight people who died from eating undercooked wild hog in Kampong Thom province had contracted trichinosis.

In addition to the eight deaths, 33 people have fallen ill from eating the undercooked wild hog in Sandan district since last month.

The Health Ministry yesterday said in a statement that tests carried out on the bicep muscles and blood of the infected confirmed they had been infected with trichinellosis, a worm that can penetrate muscle tissue and organs, possibly leading to death.
