Increasing concern as COVID numbers surge with almost 900 new cases – and over 160 deaths since last weekend

There is increasing concern that the recent surge in COVID case numbers and deaths in Cambodia shows no sign of slowing down.

Cambodia today announced another 883 new COVID cases, continuing the recent rise in daily case figures.

In contrast, 607 recoveries were announced – meaning that the active case total went up again to 5,205, breaking the 5,000 active case barrier for the first time in a week.

The total case total for Cambodia is now 48,532 with 42,764 people having now recovered from COVID.

The Kingdom also recorded another 16 new deaths from COVID today – bringing the total number of deaths due to COVID in Cambodia up to 556 direct deaths.

This means that The Kingdom has recorded 162 deaths since last weekend – more than 20% of Cambodia’s total deaths.

As has been the recent trend, a case and death breakdown was not released by the Ministry.

There was a total of 135 imported cases – continuing the trend of high imported cases with one of the highest ever imported daily totals...

PHNOM PENH, July 13 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): The Ministry of Health on July 13 reported another 830 Covid-19 cases, 217 of which were imported.

The ministry also reported 28 new deaths and 1, 012 recoveries.

As of July 13, Cambodia had recorded a total of 62, 700 Covid-19 cases with 54, 489 recoveries and 953 fatalities.

Nearly 1, 000 migrant workers and truck drivers tested positive for Covid-19 out of a total of around 10, 000 tested between July 1-11 in the Thailand-bordering provinces of Battambang and Oddar Meanchey, according to provincial authorities.

In Battambang, deputy provincial governor Soeum Bunrith told The Post that during a testing campaign there were 24 Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand out of 330 who tested positive.

The other 4, 577 people tested were drivers and cargo handlers who were transporting goods from Thailand to Cambodia and vice versa, 40 of whom tested positive for Covid-19...
