PHNOM PENH: Cambodia on Sunday (April 12) confirmed that a foreign couple was tested positive for the Covid-19 (coronavirus), raising the total number of the confirmed cases in the kingdom to 122.

The new patients are a 50-year-old Canadian man and his 24-year-old Vietnamese wife, said a Ministry of Health statement, adding that the man worked at a casino in capital Phnom Penh, and his wife came to Cambodia as a tourist and stayed at an apartment on St. 302 in the capital's Boeung Keng Kang I district.

"The couple has been placed under quarantine for treatment at the Chak Angre Krom Health Center (in Phnom Penh)," the statement said.

Cambodia has seen two more Covid-19 patients discharged from the hospital after recovery by the end of Saturday, bringing the tally of patients cured in the kingdom to 77, it said.

(Bangkok) – Cambodian authorities are using the Covid-19 pandemic to carry out arbitrary arrests of opposition supporters and government critics, Human Rights Watch said today. The authorities have arrested at least 30 people, including 12 linked to the dissolved Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP), on charges of spreading “fake news” and other offenses since the global outbreak of the pandemic.

As of April 28, Cambodia reported 122 positive Covid-19 cases, with no new cases reported for 16 days. The absence of recent cases raises concerns that either the government is not testing for the coronavirus or that medical workers fear reprisal for reporting results.
