Two Cases of ConfirmedCOVID-19 in Calaveras County

On March 10, 2020, following the informational update to the Board of Supervisors regarding novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Calaveras Public Health received confirmation that two members of a family in Copperopolis tested positive for COVID-19. Their exposure to COVID-19 occurred outside of Calaveras County.One of thosecommunity members is a child, who is currently enrolled at Copperopolis Elementary School.Public Health officials are coordinating with local schools on further actions.The family has remained isolated at home since this investigation began. Public Health is identifying persons who may have had close personal contact with these individuals, including friends or family members. Close personal contacts identified during this investigation will be quarantined.

“With the discovery of these new cases,we may see additional cases of COVID-19 in the community,”said Dr.Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer.The Health Officer will also declare a public health emergency effective 4:00PM on March,10, 2020...

This county has the most confirmed cases in the Bay Area. As of March 8, health officials have identified a total of 43: eight were travel-related, 14 were from being in close contact with a known case, and 21 contracted the virus through unspecified community transmission.

One woman died on March 9 at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. She had been hospitalized for several weeks, officials said.

SOLANO COUNTY

Confirmed cases: 6 cases, at least one of them is a non-resident

A female Solano County resident was the first case of "unknown origin" in the U.S. and was infected with virus without any travel history or contact with another known case. She first arrived at the North Bay VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville on Feb. 15 and was transferred to UC Davis Medical Center three days later, before being tested.

Two health care workers at the North Bay VacaValley Hospital were also infected with the virus. One is a Solano County resident; the other lives in Alameda County.

4 San Jose firefighters test positive for COVID-19, with more possible

SAN JOSE — Four San Jose firefighters have tested positive for the coronavirus, and the impact of the disease on the fire department stands to grow dramatically in the coming days with more awaiting tests and the revelation that family members of the ill firefighters have also been infected, officials said.

As it stood Thursday afternoon, city officials reported that 80 firefighters may have been exposed to COVID-19, meaning that more than 10 percent of the city’s 750-member firefighting staff was affected. The city said 16 are back on duty, and that 52 remain on leave to quarantine. The firefighters union said that of those in quarantine, two firefighters are showing symptoms of the virus and were awaiting test results...

...The first death was a woman in her 90s residing at an Elk Grove assisted living home who died last Tuesday. ​*Sacramento County will not be annoucing individual confirmed cases or deaths. The case counts will be updated at least every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or as the information comes in from the County's Department of Health Services.

**Both individuals who died from complications of COVID-19 were older than 70 and had underlying health conditions.

Sacramento County is following the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in order to slow the transmission of COVID-19. These recommendations include postponing or cancelling non-essential gatherings with more than 50 people. Smaller events may proceed if organizers can implement social distancing of six feet per person.




Update for March 16, 2020

The California Governor announced directives yesterday to address the need to slow the spread of COVID-19, and Sacramento County urges compliance with these directives. The directives include closing all bars, wineries, brew pubs and night clubs, as they are considered non-essential; that restaurants cut their seating capacity in half but no more than 50 to comply with social distancing requirements; and those who are 65 and older or with chronic underlying health conditions should stay home.


Gatherings of individuals who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 (65 years and older and/or those with underlying health conditions) should be limited to no more than 10 people – including those at retirement facilities, assisted living facilities, developmental homes, and support groups for people with health conditions. All recommendations will be in place until at least the end of March.



​At this time, Sacramento County’s level of community transmission or impact of COVID-19 is “minimal to moderate.”



The California State Department of Public Health (CDPH) defines a “gat​hering” as “any event or convening that brings together people in a single room or single space at the same time, such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other indoor or outdoor space.” Visit the CDPH website for its guidelines on gatherings.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (KRON) – Health officials on Friday confirmed the first death linked to coronavirus in Contra Costa County.

In a statement, officials said the patient died Thursday at a hospital in the county.

First Monterey County death due to coronavirus announced

Monterey County Health Department officials announced the death in a news release.

The adult was hospitalized and had an underlying health condition that predisposed her or him to having more severe disease, the release said.
