School Closed After Students Possibly Exposed To MRSA

SAN DIEGO -- A private Carmel Valley high school was closed Friday so the campus could be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after a student may have exposed others to a dangerous drug-resistant staph infection.
The student at Cathedral Catholic High School may have Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, or MRSA, according to the school's website.

Cathedral Catholic campus activities suspended until Monday.
Dear Parents, Please be advised that Cathedral Catholic High School has been notified that there has been a possible case of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in one of our students. As a precaution, the administration of Cathedral Catholic High School has decided to suspend all activities on campus from Thursday afternoon (3/29) through Sunday (4/1). School has been cancelled for tomorrow (3/30) so that trained maintenance personnel will have the opportunity to thoroughly clean and sanitize all school facilities. We feel that we are best serving the interests and well-being of our students, families, and employees by taking this precaution. The campus will remain closed to all students, faculty, staff and parents until school resumes on Monday morning, April 2nd, as normal. Student activities such as athletic contests and the drama production will be rescheduled for alternative dates. Off-campus athletic events will continue as planned however student athletes and coaches may not have access to campus to pick up equipment or uniforms. Teachers are aware that students cannot come to campus to pick up books or materials for classes. Items that were left on campus and not in lockers will be placed in the Dean of Student?s Office for pick up on Monday. Please note: Monday will still be a Gold 5 class day. We thank you for your understanding and we will continue to update you by email and our CCHS website with additional information as needed.
