California OKs Sanitec?s pathological waste system
Aug. 29 -- The California Department of Health has approved the use of a California manufacturer?s microwave waste disinfection system for processing pathological waste, such as human organs and tissue.
Currently, California requires pathological waste from medical procedures to be trucked out of state for processing.
However, the Department of Health recently approved Sanitec Industries Inc.?s Microwave Healthcare Waste Disinfection System for processing pathological waste.
The Sun Valley, Calif., based company says allowing health care facilities to process the materials onsite will reduce costs and truck traffic.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Department of Health also recently approved Sanitec for the disposal of bird carcasses in the event of an avian flu outbreak.
