Modesto girl with meningitis dies
Official rules out risk to schoolmates, public

An 11-year-old Modesto girl has died from a combination of illnesses including meningitis, officials said Monday.
Dr. John Walker, public health officer for Stanislaus County, said preliminary tests last week and additional tests determined the girl did not have meningococcal meningitis, a contagious form that usually triggers an aggressive public health response to keep it from spreading.
