County Reports First Flu Death Of Someone Under 65 This Season

Santa Clara County public health officials announced Tuesday the county's first flu death of someone under 65 years old during the current 2018-19 flu season.

The person who died was 39 years old and had other medical conditions that led to an increased risk of severe complications from the flu, according to the county Public Health Department.

More information about the person who died is not being released by the county because of medical privacy laws.

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) - Health officials on Wednesday reported that an adult San Francisco resident has died from influenza-related causes.

This is the first flu-associated death of the season in San Francisco.

Officials say the person who died in San Francisco had multiple medical conditions.

A young child who died after testing positive for influenza is the first pediatric-flu associated death in Riverside County this flu season, health officials said Wednesday.

Authorities have not identified the 4-year-old, who died outside of the county, according to a news release from the Riverside University Health System-Public Health. County health officials just learned of the death late last week.

The child, who was from the southwest part of the county, had no underlying health condition, according to Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the county's public health officer. He or she was not vaccinated against the flu.

Two flu deaths confirmed in Fresno County. Officials say protect yourself

The first two flu-related deaths this season of Fresno County residents under the age of 65 were reported Friday.

The Fresno County Department of Public Health confirmed that one man, 62, and one woman, 59, were the two dead from the flu, though it remained unclear to health department officials when they died. The health department did not get reports on whether the man and woman were vaccinated.

Officials at the health department said the recent deaths bring the number of flue deaths in Fresno County to six since October 2018. Four were over the age of 65. Flu deaths of those under 65 are worrisome to health officials.

SAN DIEGO ? San Diego County health officials Wednesday reported five more influenza deaths in the region, bringing this flu season?s death toll to 16.

One of the five was a 38-year-old man with underlying medical issues; his vaccination status was unclear. The other four also had chronic illnesses and only one had received the flu vaccine, according to the county.

Healthy 32-year-old man dies of flu, county reports

SAN DIEGO ? Complications for the flu resulted in the deaths of eight San Diego County residents ranging in age from 27 to 85 last week, health officials reported Wednesday.

Among the deaths was a 32-year-old North County man without medical issues and a 27-year-old South County man who had additional medical issues. Five of the other six residents who died also had medical issues in addition to the flu. The county did not report if any of them had been vaccinated.

A 27-year-old-man is among eight new influenza-related deaths reported last week in San Diego County, health officials announced Wednesday.

According to the County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), the South County man is the youngest local resident to die from the flu this season.

The man died on Jan. 9 from influenza A pandemic H1N1. Health officials said the man, whose name was not released, had unspecified underlying medical conditions.

IMPERIAL, Calif. - A second flu-related death has been reported by the Imperial County Public Health Department on Thursday.

This is the second flu-related death in the 2018-2019 flu season.

Laboratory testing conducted showed positive results for the influenza A virus. The individual is said to be in the 50-59 age range and it is not confirmed if they received their flu shot.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) ? A 14-year-old girl is the first child to die from influenza this season in San Diego.

The girl, who died on Feb. 12, had an underlying health condition, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. She had contracted influenza A, also known as H1N1, the county says, and had not received this season's flu vaccine.
