Shasta County is still battling an ongoing gonorrhea outbreak as the year wraps up, with an estimated 30 percent rise in local cases compared to 2012.

Jennifer Black, an epidemiologist for Shasta County Public Health, said there were 203 confirmed cases of gonorrhea in Shasta County from January to the end of November. In 2012, there were 168 cases for the entire year, she said.

?In non-outbreak years, we get about 40 cases a year, so it?s a significant difference,? Black said. ?We consider this an outbreak.?..
