The number of flu-related deaths statewide has surpassed last year?s total ? and there may be more to come.

As of Jan. 31, 147 flu-related deaths were reported in the state of California, whereas last year the total number of deaths for the season was 106.

The number may rise; 44 deaths are being investigated as possibly being flu-related. The season typically peaks in January and February...
