3 deaths in Kings County due to H1N1 flu strain

HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Kings County Department of Public Health department confirmed its third death from the H1N1 flu virus. The latest victim was a middle-aged woman who was previously healthy and she also had not gotten a flu shot.

Richard Balderama couldn't believe his cousin died from the H1N1 strain of the flu last week. Balderama says his cousin, 39-year-old Isidro Rodriguez, looked happy and healthy.

" They told me he was in the hospital a few days later they said he was going to die, they didn't know what was the cause and then I went in and seen him went and prayed for him" Balderama said.

Flu season made worse by air pollution
Tuesday, January 07, 2014

Rick Montanez
CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) --

Unique to the valley again this year the flu will be met by soot-filled air. Pollution that allergist Dr. A.M. Aminian says is making his patients miserable.

"These particles, they rub against the bronchial tubes, they make it irritated and enflamed," Dr. Aminian said. "If you catch a cold or get exposed to a cold or virus, that always makes it worse and they get sicker than usual."...
