San Francisco Zoo closes aviaries after hawk tests positive for bird flu

​The San Francisco Zoo temporarily closed its aviaries after a wild red-shouldered hawk tested positive for avian influenza.

The hawk was found dead on the zoo’s grounds, officials told KQED, prompting them to take action to safeguard the zoo’s birds and prevent the spread of the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus.​..

Dead geese found at Truxtun Lake positive for avian flu

The [Two?] dozen or more Canada geese found dead in and around Truxtun Lake starting November 7 tested positive for avian influenza, according to an update from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

It’s not yet known if they had the H5 subtype, which is the more transmissible variety. The Wildlife Health Laboratory is still working on that, wrote Abby Gwinn, a biologist with CDFW.

Health authorities in Baja California ordered the precautionary and temporary closure of two lakes in the same number of public parks in Tijuana, due to the H5N1 avian flu virus.

In one of them, the Friendship Park located north of the municipality near the border with California, United States, three sick birds have already been detected.

These are the first cases confirmed in this state since the Baja California government reinforced prevention measures, following California's declaration of a state of emergency for the same disease on December 18...​
