June 25, 2022 9:20pm Updated

The number of confirmed monkeypox cases in Los Angeles County has jumped to 22, which health officials said has largely been spread among men who have sex with other men who have recently attended large events.

Most of the recent cases involve individuals who have not traveled out of the country or out of the state, as was the situation in most of the first identified cases in the US.

No hospitalizations or deaths have been reported, officials said.

“Anyone can get and spread monkeypox, but some of the recent cases identified have been among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men who attended large events where the exposure to monkeypox may have occurred,” the Los Angeles Department of Public Health said in a statement on Friday. “Public Health is working with event organizers to notify attendees of potential exposure.”...

The Riverside County Department of Public Health has announced two more "probable" cases of monkeypox in the county.

The probable cases are both men, under the age of 60, who live in eastern Riverside County, according to department spokesperson Jose Arballo Jr.

On Tuesday, the county and the CDC confirmed its first case of monkeypox. The patient was also a man, under the age of 60, located in eastern Riverside County.

The first patient was treated at an Eisenhower facility, according to Lee Rice, Eisenhower Health spokesperson.

The county has a limited amount of monkeypox vaccines. It can only give the vaccine for the recommended use after exposure. The county is expecting a bigger supply but it doesn't know when it'll arrive. For now, county officials are working on creating a monkeypox dashboard similar to their COVID one that would be updated regularly...

Local health officials have detected two more probable cases of monkeypox in Sacramento County, the ninth and 10th infections since the county’s outbreak began in late May.

No additional information was immediately available regarding the two most recent cases. A data tracker from the county health on Monday showed the total increase from eight to 10.

The county health office announced the discovery of the first California monkeypox case May 24, in a resident who recently returned from international travel. Local officials sent the specimen to a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lab, which confirmed the sample as monkeypox.

Seven additional cases were then detected within a month: four identified via contact tracing linked to the first case, followed by three that were unrelated to the first five and whose cases were linked to domestic travel...

San Francisco monkeypox cases rise to 141, lines for vaccines reportedly hit 9 hours
Amy Graff, SFGATE
July 20, 2022

A monkeypox vaccine clinic at San Francisco General Hospital opened to long lines Wednesday morning and turned away many people, ABC7 reported.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health has requested 35,000 vaccines but only received 3,580 in an initial shipment and another 4,163 this week — “which will be used within days,” Mayor London Breed said in a letter she wrote to federal health officials and posted on Twitter on Wednesday morning.

Monkeypox cases are climbing in San Francisco, prompting state and local leaders to ask federal health officials for more vaccines to meet the growing demand from residents who want shots but are being turned away at clinics.

The number of monkeypox cases in the city has risen to 141, up from 86 cases just a few days ago. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 2,322 cases of the painful, but rarely fatal, viral disease, which most notably causes a rash. California has reported 356 cases since July 19, more than a third in San Francisco. In total, California has the second highest number of known cases in any state, after New York, the CDC said...

SAN FRANCISCO - As monkeypox cases continue to rise, San Francisco's Department of Public Health has noticed rates increasing at an alarming rate among the city's Latino population. The health department is working with community groups to warn Latinos and help them protect themselves.

The city is closely monitoring the spread of monkeypox. According to the latest data, from Friday, there are 197 confirmed cases. That data also shows a disturbing trend, that although Latino's make up just 15% of San Francisco's population, 30% of the city's monkeypox cases are among Latinos.

"We're building out efforts on our previous successes learned from diseases like COVID, and other STDs like syphilis, HIV," said Oscar Macias from San Francisco's Department of Public Health...
