E. California Border Region Influenza Surveillance Network Data
Virologic Surveillance Update Cumulatively this season, a total of 848 respiratory specimens have been tested from border region clinics; of these, 21 (2.5%) tested positive for influenza. Of the 21 specimens that tested positive, 17 (81.0%) were influenza A and 4 (19.0%) were influenza B. Of the 17 specimens that tested positive for influenza A, 7 (41.2%) were subtyped as A/H3, and 10 (58.8%) had no further subtyping performed. For Week 45, a total of 211 respiratory specimens were submitted for testing; 6 (2.8%) were positive for influenza virus. Of the 6 specimens that tested positive, 4 (66.7%) were influenza A and 2 (33.3%) were influenza B. Of the 4 specimens that tested positive for influenza A, 2 (50%) were subtyped as A/H3 and 2 (50%) had no further subtyping performed.

First LA flu deaths had pre-existing conditions, but you should still get a flu shot

Public health officials confirmed Wednesday the first two flu-related deaths of the 2015-16 flu season in Los Angeles County, noting that both patients had ?significant? pre-existing medical conditions.

But even if you?re in good health, you should still get a flu shot, according to health officials.

One of the two dead patients was a southeast Los Angeles man in his 40s, and the other was a woman in her 90s from northwest Los Angeles. Both died during ?the final days of 2015,? according to the county Department of Public Health.

a southern breeze blew this way for a day and 3 I know started having a "barking" cough, deep chest cold that hasn't gone away in 3 weeks.

now we found out Sempra could have stopped the leak with containment within a week of it's start back in October...

RIVCO: First flu-related death reported in county

Flu-related illness claimed the life of a 47-year-old Riverside County man ? the first county resident to die from the virus this year ? health officials said today.


The county Department of Public Health said the victim, whose name was not released, died last week at a hospital in the Riverside metropolitan area. Along with the flu, he was battling other health disorders that officials would not disclose.

County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser said it was not known whether the man had received a flu shot.

Westminster man is first O.C. flu death of season

The Orange County Health Care Agency offers free flu vaccinations for people 6 months and older who do not have a medical provider or health insurance coverage, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays at 1725 W. 17th St., Santa Ana. Appointments are not required.
Orange County public health officials reported Wednesday the death of a 50-year-old Westminster man from flu complications. His is the first influenza-related death this season in Orange County in a resident younger than 65.

A flu outbreak has been officially declared in Fresno County after testing showed rising infection rates.

In addition, one person died from the virus earlier this month. That fatality marks the second death linked to the virus since October, the Fresno County Health Department reported.

influenzaSAN DIEGO ? An 83-year-old San Diego man who died of influenza- related causes 12 days ago was the region?s sixth fatality during this ?flu season,? county health officials reported.

The victim, who already had a medical problem, died Feb. 5, according to the county Health and Human Services Agency.

The death was reported at a time when the rate of flu infections is climbing. Last week, more than 600 cases were reported by the HHSA, the most during flu season and more than double that of the week before.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, experts believe that a number of factors, including effective vaccines and favorable weather, have led to the unusually low number of flu cases this year.

Flu related deaths on the rise in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Four influenza-related deaths were reported to the county Health and Human Services Agency last week, bringing the "flu season'' toll to 15, area health officials announced Wednesday.

The 15 patients who died were between the ages of 41 and 95, and all but three had pre-existing medical conditions, according to the county HHSA.

While the number of flu deaths has climbed steadily over the past month, the total pales compared to this time last year, when 83 people had died in San Diego County.

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) - 11 deaths caused by influenza-related complications were recorded last week in San Diego, raising the "flu season" death toll up to 26, county health officials reported Wednesday. This is a sharp decline from last year, however, where 84 people had died from flu complications at this point.
