Whooping cough cases continue to rise in California's worst epidemic in 63 years.

In San Diego County, public health officials say 17 new cases this week may have exposed other children to the illness.

As of Tuesday, a record 822 cases of whooping cough, including two infant deaths, have been reported in the county so far this year..

As whooping cough cases statewide surpass totals not seen in 60 years, Sacramento County shows a relatively low number of reported cases in new data from the state's public health agency.

The county's health officer, however, says the actual number of cases is certainly higher than the 136 reported to date...

More pertussis cases were reported in October than any other month so far, the Department of Public Health announced today, renewing the call for residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible...

An 8-year-old Chaparral Elementary School student is reported to have been exposed to pertussis, or whooping cough as it is commonly known, this week.

The student is among one of 21 new cases of whooping cough, bringing San Diego County's total number of cases to 931, according to the Health and Human Services Agency...

Health officials say the number of whooping cough cases continues to rise in the statewide epidemic this week, with a record 993 cases reported so far this year in San Diego County.

Statewide, 7,297 cases including 10 infant deaths have been reported since Nov. 30, the most recent information available, making the epidemic the worst since 1947...
