BRAZILIAN scientists have flown to Cairns to study a breakthrough experiment to control the spread of dengue fever, with the world-first project preparing to extend its reach to the dengue-plagued South American nation.

The Eliminate Dengue Program has introduced wolbachia, a naturally occurring bacteria, into wild mosquito populations in Cairns to make them incapable of transmitting the dengue virus to humans...
