Measles cases are on the rise statewide this year, with 15 new cases reported just last week. And those numbers reveal a disturbing new trend: About three-quarters of this year?s 38 reported cases occurred in adults who had never received vaccinations or had partial vaccinations.

California public health officials said Thursday that the San Francisco Bay Area has reported 10 confirmed cases of measles this year, most of them linked to unvaccinated adults exposed through international travel. Four were in Santa Clara County, four in San Mateo County, one in San Francisco County and one in Santa Cruz County...

A sixth Los Angeles County resident contracted measles and likely rode an airport shuttle and shopped at a major retailer while infected.

LOS ANGELES, CA ? A sixth Los Angeles County resident has contracted measles - the latest in a slow-moving outbreak brought home by international travelers. The latest person to contract measles likely picked up the disease at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on the same day an infected traveler passed through the airport in April.

Officials believe the newest patient could have spread the virus while riding in an airport shuttle and shopping at a Home Depot store in Lancaster.

Health officials are asking anyone who may have been in contact with the infected patient to come forward. Persons who may have been on-site at the date and time for any of the below locations may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days after being exposed:

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Tom Bradley International Terminal, on April 23, 2019 between 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Fox Auto Parks LAX Shuttle on April 23, 2019 between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Moviegoers who went to see "Avengers: Endgame" at a theater in California could have possibly been exposed to measles, health officials said.

The Orange County Health Care agency said a woman who had just returned from a trip abroad was infected with measles when she went to see a midnight showing of the blockbuster hit at the AMC Theater in Fullerton on April 25, according to KNSD. Those who attended the same screening may have been exposed to the disease until around 4 a.m.

Employees at the theater said they were stunned by the announcement...

Los Angeles County public health officials announced Thursday, May 2, that they are investigating one more confirmed case of measles, bringing the total number of cases for the year to seven.

Officials said the new case is linked to the outbreak of four other cases reported in April, but that it is not connected to patients who visited UCLA and Cal State Los Angeles campuses last week. Those incidents led to the health department issuing hundreds of quarantine orders fearing large-scale exposure.

The health department has not identified any public exposure locations associated with this latest measles case. Health officials have been asking those diagnosed with the illness to provide a detailed account of all public locations they visited so the public can be alerted about potential exposure...

Orange County Infant, UC Irvine Grad Student Are Latest Measles Cases In SoCal

An Orange County infant who was too young to be vaccinated is hospitalized with measles, OC health officials announced Saturday. That latest case became public hours after UC Irvine officials said a graduate student who spent time on campus this week had also been confirmed to have the highly-contagious disease.

The student, identified as a man who lives in Long Beach, did not need hospitalization and is currently quarantined at his home, officials said. Orange County health officials said he had been vaccinated and had no history of international travel.

Long Beach City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis said the man is among some 3% of people who still contract measles despite being vaccinated. The good news is that those people typically suffer less severe symptoms and also are not as contagious to others.

The man had spent extensive time in public before his diagnosis, including at a movie theatre, grocery stores and wine bars in Long Beach, according to information released by health officials [Details below.]...

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) is investigating an additional confirmed case of measles in a Los Angeles County resident and an additional non-resident measles case that traveled throughout Southern California. Public Health urges residents, especially those who travel internationally and those who have not been fully protected against measles, to get the measles immunization in order to better protect their individual health and to prevent the spread of measles to others. Persons who may have been on-site at the date and time for any of the below locations may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days after being exposed.

Currently, there are eight measles cases among Los Angeles County residents in 2019, and six non-resident measles cases that traveled through Los Angeles County. Of the eight measles cases among residents, three are not linked to any of the others, and two of these cases are linked to international travel. The majority of the cases were unvaccinated.
?It is very important if you or someone you know has symptoms of measles or has been exposed to measles to contact your healthcare provider by phone right away before going in,? said Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, Los Angeles County Health Officer. ?We will likely see additional measles cases in Los Angeles County, so if you are not already immune to measles, the best way to protect yourself and to prevent the spread of measles is to get the measles immunization, with two doses of measles immunization being about 97% effective at preventing measles.?
Individuals who have been free of symptoms for more than 21 days after exposure are no longer at risk.

Riverside County health officials warn the public about potential measles exposure

Riverside County health officials alerted local residents Friday, May 31, about a 20-year-old Santa Barbara man who has been diagnosed with measles and traveled through the county when he was contagious.

According to the statement issued by the Riverside County Department of Public Health, no measles cases have been confirmed in Riverside County. But, health officials say the unidentified person stopped at these locations in the county from May 24 to May 26:

Two confirmed measles cases in Northern California brings state total to 49

Two more measles cases were confirmed in Northern California on Friday afternoon, bringing the state?s total number of measles cases to just shy of 50 people.

Both Butte and Glenn counties announced separately that they had received confirmation of one adult measles case in their county. Butte County Public Health Department spokeswoman Lisa Almaguer said both counties? patients were linked back to a measles outbreak that occurred in Butte County on March 24.

Almaguer said that Enloe Medical Center in Chico is the site of two public exposure zones. The Butte County resident who caught measles was in the hospital?s emergency room from 8:43 p.m. Monday to 2:03 a.m. on Tuesday, and the Glenn County resident who caught the illness was in the hospital?s radiology department from 6:49 a.m. to 4:12 p.m. on Monday...

A new measles case has been confirmed in Los Angeles County, but there aren?t currently any exposure sites associated with the patient, public health officials said Thursday.

The person is the 11th L.A. County resident to become sickened with the highly contagious virus this year, the county?s Department of Public Health said in a news release.

Another eight people with the disease have traveled through the county, authorities say.

Authorities previously said at least five of the local cases were linked to an international trip that four of the individuals took, and another two patients who aren?t linked also caught the virus while abroad...

A University of California Los Angeles employee who contracted measles ate at a campus food court twice last week while believed to be contagious, according to campus officials who are now warning of potential exposure to the virus.

A University of California Los Angeles employee who contracted measles ate at a campus food court twice last week while believed to be contagious, according to campus officials who are now warning of potential exposure to the virus.

The employee?s case is the 12th confirmed case of measles in Los Angeles County this year, according to a statement from the county?s Department of Public Health, which is investigating. It comes amid the largest outbreakin the United States since the disease was declared eliminated in 2000.

The employee ate lunch on July 2 and July 3 at a fast food restaurant in the UCLA Court of Sciences Student Center, the university said in a statement. The school and public health department have asked anyone who was in the center, known as the Bomb Shelter, between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on those days to see a healthcare professional to determine their immunity to measles.

Anyone who may have been at that location risks developing measles within 21 days of the exposure, an advisory from the health department issued Tuesday said...

LOS ANGELES, CA ? Los Angeles County health officials Wednesday confirmed another case of measles in a local resident, the 16th of the year in the county, and said they are looking to identify others who may be at risk for measles and have been exposed.

The latest case involves travel outside of the United States and is not linked to the outbreak reported earlier this month, nor to the outbreak reported in April of this year, L.A. County Department of Public Health officials said Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles County health officials announced a person with measles traveled through Union Station while infectious and are looking for people may have been exposed to that person.

The infected person, who is not a resident of Los Angeles County, was at Patsaouras Transit Bus Plaza Bay 8 between 12:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on July 23.

?There is no known current risk related to measles that exists at this venue at this time,? according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

This was the ninth time this year a person from outside Los Angeles County was in the county while infectious with measles. There have also been 16 measles cases among county residents this year, officials said...
