In a statement released on Sunday, May 17, the Department of Public Health said 15 people with Covid-19 have just been registered.
As of May 9 to 15, we read in the same press release, the Rapid Intervention team of the Ministry of Public Health carried out control samples from 15 patients with the disease still under medical supervision, out of 18 cases suspects (alerted by some Bujumbura hospitals) and on 71 contact persons. A total of 104 people tested.
Of the 15 former patients still on medical follow-up, 9 tested negative for Covid-19 when 4 of the 18 suspected cases tested positive. Of the 71 contacts, 11 cases returned positive to Covid-19.
This note from the Ministry of Public Health indicates that 9 former healed patients were released from the hospital. In the same press release, the Ministry of Public Health stresses that the search and identification of all those who have been in contact with the 15 new positive cases is underway.

As the coronavirus advances in Burundi, some dispute the version that the Burundian president died of a heart attack.
Burundian authorities have long denied the existence of the Covid-19 pandemic in that country and official figures, largely underestimated, now concede around 100 deaths. Added to this is the recent death of President Pierre Nkurunziza, who officially died of a heart attack. Several sources, however, contradict the official position.
Three sources close to political and medical circles in Africa told us that Pierre Nkurunziza died from the coronavirus. A disease that the late president allegedly concealed, even refusing to go to the hospital for treatment.

And we ask for a real investigation into the reasons for the death of president ", says human rights activist at DW.
A source close to the Burundian government said it feared a serious health situation. The contaminations would multiply. If we do not impose screening, the days ahead will be gloomy in terms of health, fear this source.
As of June 12, 2020, Burundi has recorded 94 cases of infected people, one death and 71 people healed, according to the African Union Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Burundi expelled the WHO representative, Dr. Walter Mulombo, and three others from his staff in mid-May. Burundian authorities have accused them of extrapolating the actual number of people affected by Covid-19.

Bujumbura, Burundi, July 8 (Infosplusgabon) - Burundi has registered 28 new cases of coronavirus after tests carried out on 670 samples, as part of a "systematic, voluntary and free" screening campaign for the inhabitants of Bujumbura, the capital Economic, which started last Monday, announced Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Health.
The M?ridien Source du Nil Hotel has been selected to serve as a screening site in the city center, the Kamenge Secondary Technical School (ETS) in the north, and the Kanyosha parish, south of Bujumbura.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, Jean-Bosco Girukwishaka, gave a more detailed assessment of 15 of the 28 new infections that were detected on a sample of 277 people taken north of Bujumbura.
He reported 11 other positive cases detected in a sample of 180 people south of the city.
The last 2 cases returned positive to COVID-19 were found on a sample of 183 people in downtown Bujumbura.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health said that only the elderly, with conditions associated with COVID-19 such as diabetes or hypertension, were immediately admitted to the hospital.
Health care is free for people hospitalized for COVID-19, he said.
The other cases considered less serious were quarantined at the H?tel M?ridien Source du Nil for a period of 14 days, at the expense of the Burundian State.
In addition, people living alone, without risk of contamination for others, were allowed to confine themselves at home.
The new Burundian president, Evariste Ndayishimiye, declared the coronavirus "public enemy n ? 1", without however taking the decisive step of confining populations.
The new regime has also decided to subsidize the price of soap and running water for hand washing, "until the pandemic is eradicated".
In Burundi, official figures indicate 3,285 suspected cases of COVID-19 that have been tested to date. 219 cases were found to be positive for one death and 118 cures, while another 100 are still under medical supervision.
The first imported cases appeared in late March on two Burundian nationals who had traveled to the United Arab Emirates and neighboring Rwanda.
