Coronavirus in Burkina Faso: government conditions resumption of courses
CompanyHealth
By Casimir Vodjo on May 7, 2020 at 8:02 p.m.

Burkina Faso currently has 729 positive coronavirus cases with 555 cured and 48 deaths. To counter the threat of the pandemic, the government has imposed many restrictive measures such as the closure of schools, which are scheduled to reopen on Monday, May 11. But according to the new decision announced by the government spokesperson after the Council of Ministers on Wednesday May 6, 2020, there will not be a resumption of classes without the protective masks being made available to students before May 11 .

"Our government is making every effort to ensure that protective masks are made available to students before the date scheduled for the May 11 resumption." But if this is not effective we will postpone the date for resumption of classes. The government will not take the risk of sending a single student without a protective mask, "said Remis Fulgance Dandjinou, Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson.

At the same time, the government announced repressive measures concerning the wearing of masks and the non respect of the rules imposed in the transport environment: "As of next week, the defense and security forces will proceed to control the compulsory wearing of masks throughout the territory, "added the government spokesman, who continues:" Any coach (transport bus) that will be taken with a passenger without a protective mask will be boarded and the owner will answer for this situation. Managers cannot do work with a series of measures, and actors will not respect. "

With the aim of supporting the Ministry of Health in the response against the Covid-19, the collaborators of the President of Burkina Faso handed over this Thursday, May 7, 2020, 5 million 350 thousand FCFA to the Ministry of Health. It should be pointed out, the Burkinab? opposition had given Thursday April 9, 2020 to the government through the ministry of health, 6 million CFA francs to help in the fight against the coronavirus.

Faced with this situation, the use of chloroquine came back in discussions between the press and Dr Brice Bicaba, coordinator of the response in Burkina Faso.

"It is a treatment that was adopted in Burkina by a decree," said the interim coordinator of the response plan on the intervention of the drug. Even if at the international level, tests are still in progress, Dr Bicaba believes that it is on the basis of a certain number of facts that Burkina authorized the use of this treatment.

Returning to the possibility of introducing other treatments, the coordinator of the response plan spoke out. “We received a donation from Madagascar. Together with clinical and research stakeholders, we will see how to use these products, ”said Dr Bicaba.
