Out of the total, 516 people are in hospitals, 32 of them in intensive care.

The medical professionals who tested positive for coronavirus are 504. 14 new cases were reported over the past 24 hours, including 5 doctors, 5 nurses, 1 health care assistant and 3 other medical staff.

The deaths of people who had a positive test result for Covid-19 are 267. The daily number of Covid-19 associated deaths is 5 people: a 63 year old man with no other illnesses; a 45 year old man with diabetes; a 67 year old man with no underlying health conditions; an 87 year old man with pneumonia and other illnesses and a 76 year old woman with heart disease.

The new cases of coronavirus infection in Bulgaria after 1275 PCR tests for the past 24 hours are 53, or 4.16%. This is shown by data from the Unified Information Portal.

The biggest number of new cases is in Plovdiv - 14, followed by Sofia - 8, Pazardzhik - 7, and Dobrich - 7. In the past 24 hours, two patients with coronavirus passed away. 5,177 cases are still active, a check by Radio Bulgaria showed. 54 people recovered and the same number of patients remain in intensive care units, while a total of 849 people are in hospital.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 304,811 PCR tests have been performed in the country and 13,396 of them, or 4.39%, have been positive.

Travellers arriving or departing from Thessaloniki’s international airport will be able to do a molecular test to determine whether they have been infected by the novel coronavirus as of August 21, the airport operator said on Tuesday.

The airport has teamed up with the Interbalkan Medical Centre in Thessaloniki to set up a small medical unit in departures to test tourists, Fraport Greece said.

The test will cost 70 euros and the result will be announced about six hours after taking the sample.

33-year-old cardiologist from Blagoevgrad, Dr. Emil Vaklyov, who was infected with coronavirus, passed away this morning in Pirogov Hospital. He has been the ninth medic in Bulgaria who became victim of coronavirus infection since the beginning of the epidemic.

His father, general practitioner Musa Vaklyov, also died of Covid-19 two days ago. Emil Vaklyov's mother, who is a nurse, is in Pirogov's intensive care ward./BNR
