Kunchev said that the recent cold weather has kept the swine flu virus in check but he added that ?it is quite possible that a second wave of the virus will strike soon.? Photo by BGNES Bulgaria?s chief epidemiologist, Dr. Angel Kunchev, has stated that a second wave of the A(H1N1) virus is likely to hit the country as the weather warms up in the Spring.

Kunchev said that the recent cold weather has kept the swine flu virus in check but he added that ?it is quite possible that a second wave of the virus will strike soon.?

Kunchev continued that he could not accurately predict when the second wave will occur or how serious it will be, BTA reported. He also said that it would most likely circulate alongside seasonal influenza viruses.

He concluded that people who suspect that they are ill should seek timely medical assistance and should remain at home rather than going out into crowded places.

At the end of 2009 Bulgaria saw a swine flu epidemic that killed 18 people over a 2-3 month period.
