Bulgaria confirms first H1N1 flu case

SOFIA, June 1 (Reuters) - Bulgaria confirmed on Monday its first case of H1N1 flu, in a man who had recently returned from the United States, the Health Ministry said.

The new flu strain has already infected nearly 16,000 people worldwide, including many in Europe.

The infected Bulgarian was treated in hospital and was in a good condition, the ministry said in a statement.

"The man has been residing in the U.S. and arrived on a flight from New York via Amsterdam to Sofia on May 27," it said.

Health authorities had examined four other people the man had come in contact with since arriving in the Balkan country but no one was infected.

"They are all in a good condition and show no symptoms of the disease," the ministry said. (Reporting by Irina Ivanova)

Second Case of Swine Flu Confirmed in Bulgaria

A child from the Blagoevgrad region has been confirmed as having the second case of the A(H1N1) virus in Bulgaria, the Health Ministry informed.

7-year-old Magdelena, from Banya village, came back from the US on the May 29. She is reported to only have a cough and slight pains in the stomach with no high temperature or signs of fever. Six people who have been in contact with the child are being kept under observation.

The World Health Organization has been informed of the case.

Meanwhile, the test results of another 7 suspected swine flu cases in Bulgaria have proven negative, the National Center for Infectious Diseases informed Thursday evening.

Bulgaria's first confirmed swine flu patient was discharged from hospital in Veliko Tarnovo early on Thursday morning.

Bulgaria Reports Three New H1N1 Cases

Three new cases of the H1N1 virus have been confirmed in Bulgaria, the country?s Heath Care Ministry reported Tuesday.

The infected are a mother and a child who returned from the USA on June 13th and another child that had contact with them. The symptoms occurred three days after they came back to Bulgaria.

The three have been isolated and remain under medical supervision and for now are in good health. Local authorities are also testing people they had contact with after they came back to Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian health authorities have contacted the World Health Organization and the European Center for Control of Diseases. From there they were informed that there has been a more intense spreading of the virus.

Bulgaria reports two new A/H1N1 flue cases

Sofia. Bulgarian National Reference Laboratory confirmed Tuesday two new A/H1N1 flue cases in grandparentS of the child who had returned with his mother to Bulgaria from the US and had flu symptoms, Ministry of Interior press office informed.

The mother and the child had felt first symptoms three days after they had returned to Bulgaria and went to hospital. They were tested positive for A/H1N1.

Grandparents had been isolated and are under medical supervision.
Their condition, especially old woman?s, aged 71, is fairly hard because she has several chronic illnesses like diabetes, cardiovascular insufficiency and other.

Bulgaria's Newest Swine Flu Patient Returned from Saudi Arabia

Bulgaria's eighth case of patient with swine flu, A(H1N1), is a man who recently came back from Saudi Arabia.

The news was announced Friday by Bulgaria's Ministry of Health, which also said the patient is quarantined, and under medical supervision. His condition is not serious.

The man came back from a Saudi Arabia trip on June 24 by plain via Istanbul, Turkey.

The Ministry has taken all precautions by testing the family and colleagues of the patient. None of them was found to have any swine flu symptoms.
