We are record holders in ASF for the first week of the year
107 outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in feral pigs have been reported by Bulgaria for the first week of 2022, according to data from the European Information System ADIS, published by the Center for Risk Assessment in the Food Chain. With this number, we are the leader on a weekly basis among the Member States.
In second place is Poland with 74 outbreaks. New cases of infection in the wild boar population have been registered in Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Italy and Romania, where their number is 31. 13 new outbreaks of ASF in domestic pigs were reported by our northern neighbor.
Due to the complicated epizootic situation in Bulgaria, the term for group hunting was extended until January 16. Reducing the wild boar population is part of measures to combat the infection.
In a number of European countries, cases of highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza in poultry were reported during the week - Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Poland. The latter also reports an outbreak of rabies. France reports three outbreaks of tuberculosis.
