17 cases of measles have been registered in Bulgaria so far, Radosveta Filipova, expert at Bulgaria?s Ministry of Health announced, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.

There are 282 registered cases of measles in Bulgaria, of which 223 have been confirmed by laboratory tests, the Health Ministry said, citing figures as at April 3.

This means that measles cases in Bulgaria have more than doubled in a month, from 94 in early March.

There are cases in eight districts in Sofia, the largest number in the Sofia district (as opposed to the city of Sofia), 127.

The next-highest number is in the district of Blagoevgrad, 107, followed by the city of Sofia, 37, Bourgas, three, and Plovdiv, Veliko Turnovo and Kyustendil, one each...

The registered cases of measles in Bulgaria as of June 17th are 933, said Minister of Health Kiril Ananiev during the parliamentary control.

Measles infected number is growing, 90% of cases among Romanies.

The most affected are children in the age groups between 0-1 years - 140 cases, 1-4 years - 287 cases and 5-9 years - 275 cases, Minister Ananiev pointed out, quoted by BTA. The Ministry of Health has established a National Coordination Council for measles control, environmental analysis, assessment of the phased implementation of measures, proposals for new measures, etc., he recalled.

Sufficient quantities of measles vaccine are provided in the country...

Bulgaria: First Case of Measles in Varna

A 29-year-old man from Varna suffered from measles. He was admitted to the City's Infectious Diseases Clinic after being treated for a long time. This was announced by Dr. Yanka Draganova from the Regional Health Inspectorate - Varna, quoted by Focus.

The man was not immunized against the disease. Currently his condition is improving and he is due to be discharged from the hospital within days. According to the physician, appropriate anti-epidemic measures are taken against the identified people with whom the patient communicated before the diagnosis was made...
