Virtual Symposium On Pandemic Influenza Preparedness On May 30

Bandar Seri Begawan - Following the pandemic influenza outbreak in Hong Kong's primary schools, a virtual symposium focusing on the preparation and response to a pandemic influenza will be held, providing Brunei Darussalam with an opportunity to be better prepared.
The Apec Emerging Infections Network (EINet) is inviting all the Apec economies, which include Brunei, to participate in the upcoming video-conference on "Pandemic Influenza Preparedness: Partnerships and Continuity Planning for Critical Systems".
Taking place May 30 from 9am-12.30pm, the e-symposium will focus on how the private and public sectors in the Apec region can cooperate and work effectively to prepare for and respond to pandemic influenza.
"We will provide a 'menu' of presentation topics and allow each economy to select topics that they wish to address," EINet said in a circular given to each Apec member country.
EINet is strongly encouraging participants to present an example of successful public-private sector collaboration in pandemic preparedness from their respective economy, which includes, but are not limited to: antiviral/vaccine stockpiling; social-distancing measures; personal protection equipment provision and joint exercises/drills.
The online symposium will cover issues ranging from the current relationships between private and public sectors for information sharing/cooperation on preparedness, to discussions on how the public health sector is communicating the risks/potential impacts of pandemic influenza to the private sector.
"Since the focus of the virtual symposium is public-private partnerships, we would like each economy to invite representatives from the private sector and aim for a 'joint' presentation from the public health and private sectors," EINet said.
Representatives, EINet said, may include, but are not limited to, members of the business/private sector who have been involved in past pandemic preparedness activities and members of the government that work closely with the private sector. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
