Brescia,Italy: Covid, 100 infections in a few days - outbreak for the English variant B.1.1.7

In Corzano, in the space of ten days, a hundred infections emerged.

Many, for a small country that from February to December 2020 had registered only 40 cases.

It all started in school, with two infected teachers. Then the screening and the discovery that dozens of children were positive. But almost always with zero symptoms. An element that greatly complicates the prevention activity.

Now the schools are closed, by order of the mayor Giovanni Benzoni. And the Brescia ATS confirms the presence of the English variant in some of the swabs sent to specialized laboratories for further information (here is the explanation on how Sars-CoV-2 continuously mutes to circumvent our defenses). In addition to traditional molecular analysis, the Brescia ATS 'asked the reference laboratory' of the Asst Spedali Civili 'to proceed with the genomic sequencing of a sample of positive swabs'. Result? The 14 sequenced swabs, which are a sample of over one hundred positives, confirm the 'positivity for the English variant' in 14 out of 14. The result came today, February 3.

This is how we explain 'such a high transmission' of the virus in a town in the Lower Plain, Corzano, which has 1,400 inhabitants. And where 10% of the population test positive for Covid. 'We have 140 positives and 60% is represented by elementary school and kindergarten students who in turn have infected family members' is the confirmation that comes from the mayor, himself positive for the swab.

The mayor closed the schools until February 8.
