With low demand for vaccine, Rio registers 28 deaths from influenza

Since January of this year, the state of Rio de Janeiro recorded 28 deaths from influenza, with 105 cases of the disease. The number almost equals all deaths from influenza in 2018, when there were 30 deaths among 233 cases of the disease.

According to the Superintendency of Epidemiological Surveillance of the State Department of Health (SES), 23 of the patients who died were part of the target audience of the vaccination campaign. The data were released today (5).

The preventive action would end on Friday (31), however, SES extended the deadline until next day 15 due to the low demand. To date, the state has vaccinated 70% of the campaign's target audience, with 3.4 million people immunized.
