The Brazilian Ministry of Health included healthy people between 30 and 39 years of age in the vaccination campaign against influenza A (H1N1), which begins March 8 and will conclude on May 21 ahead, reported Prensa Latina.
The entity that had preceded the first to receive the immunization would be health professionals from primary care network and those related to the pandemic response, and would follow the Indians, pregnant women, children between six months and two years, young 20 to 29 years and people with chronic ailments.
With the new recruits, health officials hope to immunize some 91 million Brazilians of all 198 million inhabitants, and the ministry has 113 million doses ready for the season ending before June because the month starts the winter in this nation South America.
Announcing the official decision, Health Minister Jose Gomes Temporao said that in November, when they made the purchase of the vaccine, there was an increase of supply in international markets that allowed access to a greater number of doses.
He said that it will have a strategic reserve, monitoring what will happen during the process to take other measures.
Moreover, Temporao announced it has doubled from seven to 14 the number of labs to diagnose influenza A (H1N1) and explained that this is a wider network that will support the process of immunization.
The minister said that "we will meet that challenge brilliantly.
He announced further expansion of available drugs to combat the disease and noted that 20 million doses will be distributed by prescription in a 600 units comprising the People's Pharmacy program.
Temporao added yet they bought monitors and ventilators to increase the beds in the ICUs, with the objective of meeting the most severe cases.
