The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) reports a new update of the measures adopted by countries importing Brazilian poultry meat, due to the detection of an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (IAHP) in the municipality of Montenegro (RS).
The current situation is as follows:
Total suspension of poultry meat exports from Brazil: China, European Union, Mexico, Iraq, South Korea, Chile, Philippines, South Africa, Jordan, Peru, Canada, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Malaysia, Argentina, Timor-Leste, Morocco, Bolivia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

The official veterinary service has completed the cleaning and disinfection of the area in Montenegro (RS) where an outbreak of avian flu was confirmed in a commercial poultry breeding farm. With this, the 28-day sanitary vacuum period begins this Thursday (22), as provided for in international protocols. If no new outbreaks are recorded during this period, Brazil will be able to declare itself free of the disease in that region.
“This period is essential so that we can, in a technical and transparent manner, prove that the virus has been contained. At the end of this period, if there are no new cases, Brazil will be able to declare itself free of the disease in that region. This not only strengthens the credibility of our health system, but also represents a fundamental step towards reopening markets and normalizing exports. This is a procedure provided for in international protocols, and we are conducting this process with the utmost rigor and responsibility,” explained the Secretary of Agricultural Defense, Carlos Goulart.
"With the strength of the system and transparency in procedures, we will be able to prove the containment of the outbreak and negotiate protocols with our commercial partners that avoid the total blocking of exports", highlights the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro.
The sanitation activity of the outbreak began on May 16 and concluded this Wednesday (21). All risk material was handled appropriately, with removal and destruction under the supervision of the official veterinary service, as determined by the National Contingency Plan.
The site has seven strategic control points, with traffic and disinfection barriers. One of them is a total blockade, preventing any passage, while the other six act as containment and disinfection barriers - two located at the access points to the outbreak, within a 3 km radius, and four in the surveillance area, aimed at sanitizing vehicles leaving the region.
The movement of animals and derived products continues to be controlled by the official veterinary service, through the Animal Transit Guide (GTA) issuing system.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) also reports that, within a 10 km radius of the affected farm, 540 rural establishments were identified. Of these, in addition to the farm where the outbreak occurred, two more operate commercial poultry farming. All establishments have already been inspected.
The operation in the region mobilizes 25 teams formed by technicians from the official veterinary service, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation of Rio Grande do Sul (Seapi), with support from the City Hall of Montenegro, the Military Brigade and the Fire Department.
