One of them is a total blockade, preventing any passage, while the other six act as containment and disinfection barriers - two located at the access points to the outbreak, within a 3 km radius, and four in the surveillance area, aimed at sanitizing vehicles leaving the region.

The movement of animals and derived products continues to be controlled by the official veterinary service, through the Animal Transit Guide (GTA) issuing system.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) also reports that, within a 10 km radius of the affected farm, 540 rural establishments were identified. Of these, in addition to the farm where the outbreak occurred, two more operate commercial poultry farming. All establishments have already been inspected.

The Official Veterinary Service (OVS) received a notification of accute mortality, neurological and digestive signs in a breeder farm. From the start of the OVS investigation, the premise was quarantined, including suspension of the movement of birds and products. Laboratory analysis identified H5N1 virus clade 2.3.4.4b. No relevant antiviral resistance mutations were identified. Genotyping revealed that the samples have similar genotypes to those previously identified in wild birds in Brazil (B3.2). This Thursday (10), the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, participated in a high-level meeting by videoconference with the Commissioner for Animal Health and Welfare of the European Union (EU), Olivér Várhelyi. The meeting aimed to discuss the next steps for the removal of restrictions imposed by the European bloc on exports of Brazilian chicken meat, after the confirmation of an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HIAIP) in a commercial farm in the municipality of Montenegro (RS), in May of this year.

Highlighting the importance of the meeting, Minister Fávaro reinforced the efficiency of the Brazilian health system and stated that the country has already completed all required measures, having even regained its disease-free status with the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO). "This is not about celebrating the crisis, but rather recognizing the opportunity we had to demonstrate the robustness of our health system. We have complied with all protocols, controlled the outbreak, and, familiar with Brazilian and European health regulations and their equivalence—with the necessary specificities—I hereby formally request recognition, also by the European Union, of Brazil as a country free of avian flu. This is the main request of this meeting," stated Fávaro.

Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi thanked the Brazilian government for its transparency regarding the outbreak and acknowledged the authorities' agility in containing the disease. "As you know, our rules go beyond the parameters defined by the WHO. We still need additional information about their surveillance program. This is a technical and routine procedure, applied uniformly to both third countries and the European Union's own Member States," Várhelyi explained.

At the end of the video conference, Minister Fávaro stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) is mobilized to meet the EU's additional requirements as quickly as possible. "I leave satisfied with the meeting's progress and confident that, with the submission of the requested additional information, Brazil will have its health status duly recognized by the European Union, allowing the full resumption of chicken meat exports," the minister said.
