Bosnia and Herzegovina: an important project for the poultry sector

The project, sponsored by the World Bank, was presented this week with a view to control the spread of avian flu in the country. The project cost is $ 7 million.

The project to control avian influenza will begin this week at a seminar in Sarajevo.

The project aims to minimize the threat to people and domestic animals and poultry from the avian influenza or other diseases, to prepare for it and to respond quickly and monitor this or other pandemic. The first case of bird flu in Bosnia and Herzegovina was recorded in February 2006, followed in second on the border with Serbia in March 2006. These cases have serious consequences for the economy and slowed development in the area of food safety and standards in the field of animal health.
